Installation & Gamified Interaction Design

The exhibition’s central work, <염원을 지닌다는 것에 대하여 : The Weight of the Desire We Carry>, unfolds as a two-part installation that fuses visual image, wearable sculpture, “physical first” authentication technology based in blockchain, and audience interactivity:

​

• <Earth — Cyclicality — Eternity : 영생(營生)의 염원(念願) V> (157 × 540 cm, charcoal and gesso on loose cotton canvas, 2025), a monumental painting, stretches across the gallery space as a vessel for cyclical vitality. Its surface, rendered in Tcha’s signature meditative repetition of charcoal and gesso, becomes both a terrain for reinterpretations of traditional dialogue and a record of energy.

• <eee Christian Dior Le Connaisseur Frame — Size 42R — Black> (Pure Virgin Wool, curated by eee studio, 2023), an upcycled vintage Dior jacket transformed into a sculptural frame, continues eee’s Art Framed by Function™ practice: old garments are repurposed into carriers of art, upcycling value. By embedding the logic of framing the larger art piece, this piece positions desire as something that is carried, with weight that can be held and felt in the physical world.

This trajectory builds on the Physical First exhibition, where viewers obtained NFT certificates through NFC-embedded works. While that approach remains realized in <eee Christian Dior Monsieur - size 48 - Black> (2023) and <Earth — Cyclicality — Eternity VI> (2025), the present installation expands into an experiment in fragmented IP ownership (분할된 지적재산권 소유).

Together, the frame and the painting form an interactive process. Visitors are invited to scan the painting and claim the intellectual property of the crane—one of the symbols of the traditional Sipjangsaeng representing longevity, harmony, and transcendence.

​

To do so, they must surpass the number on the screen: the most recent weight bid entered by the previous participant. Each bid is an individual choice, yet together they accumulate into a collective measure—a shared value of yearning. This rising sequence signifies the burden of the soul we are willing to carry, carried in exchange for possessing the image of eternal life. Once a new bid is declared, an NFT is generated, granting legal intellectual property (IP) ownership of the crane image to the participant.

Through this exchange, the Art Framed by Function™ series extends into the digital sphere, where ownership unfolds in two intertwined dimensions: technologically, through the fragmentation of IP into NFT form, and philosophically, through the act of carrying one’s yearning as a spiritual responsibility.

The weight of the desire we carry >는 회화, 조형, 블록체인 기반 게이미피케이션, 그리고 관객 참여가 결합된 설치 작업이다.

 

• <지구 — 순환성 — 영원성 : 영생(營生)의 염원(念願) V>, 157 × 540cm, 면 캔버스에 숯과 젯소, 2025
  십장생(十長生)의 시각적·철학적 언어를 재해석한 작업으로, 명상적 반복을 통해 쌓인 숯과 젯소는 전통적 상징성과 현대적 에너지를 동시에 담아내며, 순환하는 생명력의 기록으로 펼쳐진다.

  빈티지 디올 재킷을 업사이클링해 프레임으로 재탄생시킨 이 작품은 Art Framed by Function™ 시리즈의 연장선에 놓인다. 버려진 의복을 예술의 매개체로 변환하는 과정을 통해 지속적으로 탐구해온 개념인 ‘가치의 순환(Upcycling Value)’을 실천하며, 사라질 수 있던 사물이 새로운 의미와 무게를 부여받는다.

​

이번 전시에서 재킷은 작업물의 단순한 프레임 역할을 넘어, 욕망을 짐처럼 지니는 행위를 드러내는 장치로 자리한다. 양식 복장을 한복의 저고리와 치마를 연상하게끔 주름을 넣어, 와이어로 행잉할때는 전통적인 우리나라의 복장을 연상하게 디자인 했다. 몸에 착용했을 때는, 아름다운 영생의 의미를 담은 그림의 무게를 온전히 느끼게 되며, 양복은 형태를 잃는다. 관객은 이를 통해 소망이 물질적 감각으로 전환되는 순간을 마주하게 된다.

게이미피케이션 (Gamification)을 통한 분할IP 획득

기존의 Art Framed by Function™ 시리즈의 가장 최근 전시인
<Physical First> 에서는 작품에 내재된 NFC 칩을 통해 작품의 3D 렌더링이 담긴 NFT 보증서를 획득하는 과정을 경험할 수 있었다.

두 작품은, 게이미피케이션된 참여 구조를 이룬다. 자켓은 기존 보증서 획득 디자인을 재 구현했고, 그림에는 이러한 맥락을 확장하여 분할된 fragmented IP ownership(분할된 지적재산권 소유)에 대한 실험을 시도한다.

​

관객은 그림을 스캔하여 십장생의 상징물 가운데 ‘장수, 조화, 초월’을 의미하는 ‘학’의 지적재산권(IP)을 획득할 수 있다. 이를 위해서는 화면에 나타난 이전 참가자의 무게 수치를 넘어서는 새로운 값을 제시해야 한다.

​

각 수치는 개별적 선택이지만, 동시에 누적되어 집단적 지표로 축적된다. 이 상승하는 수치의 연쇄는 곧 영혼이 감당해야 하는 짐의 총량을 드러낸다. 새로운 값이 입력되면 자동으로 NFT가 발행되어, 참여자에게 해당 이미지의 법적 지적재산권(IP)이 귀속된다.

​

이 설계는 단순한 참여를 넘어, 염원의 무게를 수치로 환원해보는 실험이다. 관객은 반복되는 경쟁과 선택의 과정을 통해 염원과 맞바꾸어야 할 마음의 무게를 다시금 상상하게 되며, 그 교환이 지닌 의미를 경험 속에서 마주하게 된다. 소유란 곧 무언가를 얻는 행위가 아니라 마음의 무게를 짊어지는 책임임을 사유하게 된다.
